InC Sensitisation Methodology and Tools
– Guide for intermediary organisations
What’s the Objective?
Innovation is not a new phenomenon. But due to recent progress in technology,
communication and changes in customer behaviours, innovation is no longer a
sure ticket to become a market leader. Instead, it is a must for any company to be
able to survive in the long term. That means that companies need not only to meet
customer needs, but they need to anticipate the needs and market developments
or create them in advance. For that companies require proper culture, mindset
and tools. Nowadays, innovation culture is a key factor for sustainability and
competitiveness, and a key tool for improving business performance of firms
(Arsawan et al. 2020). Among others, the innovation culture critical relevance
has been proven by a Harvard University study that shown that a strong culture
increased net income by 765 percent over 10 years in a sample of more than 200
companies (HBR, 2019). The InC Sensitisation Methodology and Tools aim to
provide a proper approach and tools for organisations promoting innovation in
SMEs (or innovation education) to increase recognition for relevance of
innovation and benefits of embracing innovation in SMEs and helping
understand the relevance of innovation culture and its key factors.
To benefit from innovation strategy and culture and translate them into
improvements in performance and sustainability, SMEs managers need
competencies to implement it, as well as proper tools to do so. In many countries
i.e. Romania or Portugal, next to lack of innovation knowledge and competencies,
lack of understanding of the strategic importance of innovation processes and
culture are among the top reasons for lack of readiness to engage in innovation
